Robert Maves is 64 years old. He started his training at the age of 10 and has been active in the martial arts for over 50 years. A 6th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, and a 2-time Ultra National Champion, he also has a Black Belt / Instructor level rank in 6 different martial arts. Robert is the Owner and Chief Instructor of Maves Martial Arts.  He is also is President of the United Taekwondo Fellowship (a 501C3 company founded for instructor growth & development. As a Level 1 Certified Coach for the USAT and an AAU Certified Coach, he has developed several National and International Champions. Selected as Coach for the 2007 and 2008 USA Taekwondo Poomsae (Forms) Team for the World Championships in Incheon, Korea and Ankara, Turkey. Educated at San Diego Community College and San Diego State University, Robert is currently training to compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and is a Strength Training & Core Training Specialist, he is also the HAA National & California representitive. Coach Maves is also the only certified CHEK Exercise Coach (www.chekinstitute.com) in the Portland/Vancouver areas.

Naim Hasan

Naim Hasan is 51 years old and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.  His experience in the martial arts spans 35 years.  Among his accomplishments, he was a gold medal Olympic Trials winner in 1988, as well as a member of the 1988 Olympic Team in Seoul, Korea.  Other accomplishments include: gold medallist at the Pan American Games in Surinam, S.A., 4-time Olympic & Sports Festival medallist (three of them gold). 

In addition to his martial arts experience, Coach Hasan has a basketball background which includes being a player at the high school and college level. Naim was also a coach for Benson High School in Portland, OR specializing in strength and conditioning. Naim is also a current, master level track competitor in the 400 meter.

Naim is the founder and director of N2H Technologies, promoting business and personal growth strategies.  Educated at Mt. Hood Community College and Portland State University, Naim is an Associate NESTA Certified Personal Trainer (CPT),  Level 1 USAT Certified Coach, a Mental Preparation & Training Specialist, and is the HAA representitive for Oregon state.

Coach Hasan is currently training to qualify in the 400m sprint for the World Master's track championships in Sydney, Australia.

 

Scott Browning

 

Scott Browning is 37 years old, a 4th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, and has been in the martial arts for 23 years.  He has competed in 13 National Championships (junior and senior), and is a Junior National Gold Medallist.  His recent competitions have included the Dutch Open in Eindhoven, Nehterlands, to International Open Tournaments in the U.S. and Canada.  Currently training to compete in the U.S. Nationals, Scott's coaching credentials includes several Junior & Ultra National Champions, as well as a Level 1 Certification from the USAT.  He is the owner and Chief Instructor of Vancouver Taekwondo Academy, and a graduate of Western Washington University, and is the HAA representitive for Idaho.

Steve is a 1987 graduate of Columbia River HS in Vancouver, WA. There he was a 2-year varsity basketball player, all-league, co-captian and co-mvp. Steve's basketball career continued at West Point Prep school in New Jersey where their team set a new win/loss record and he again shared the captain and mvp honors with two other players. Over the past several years Steve has coached basketball teams ranging from 4th grade boys to high school girls. His coaching style is aimed at creating a positive environment with simple, structured strategy and drill to develop and nurture confident, skilled players.

Steve spent 5 years in the military where he was introduced to the martial arts while stationed in TongDuChon South Korea. After earning his first black belt in Hapkido, Steve returned to the US where he continued his martial arts training and has earned various degrees of black belt ranks in 4 different styles and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Prof. Fabio Santos.

In addition to operating and instructing at the Horizon Martial Arts schools located in Woodland and Kelso, WA; Steve is co-founder and Chief Instructor of Trident Martial Systems, LLC which is responsible for training and certifying instructors and their students in various martial arts curriculum throughout the Pacific Northwest. Steve is also Horizon's representitive for Washington state and director of Horizon Basketball activities.
